To be able to teach online, you will need the proper equipment and infrastructure to handle the demands of teaching or training online. The elements needed are:
- Multimedia computer
- Essential software
- Broadband Internet
These are briefly mentioned in the essential instructor checklist, but bear explaining here.

Computer (Hardware)
While there is a wide range of computers that can be used for teaching online, a moderately fast multimedia computer is needed that will take no longer than a few seconds to process tasks/actions. The latest operating systems like Windows 10 and MacOS Catalina with up-to-date security would be essential for working online.
Besides that, good multimedia capability in the form of webcam, microphone and speakers (or headset) is required for clear and effective communication.

Software tools
A robust, secure browser is required to access ELS’s learning portal and Internet resources – the latest versions of Google Chrome, Safari, Edge and other popular browsers will do, and other software like the Zoom app will also be required as part of instructors’ online teaching tools. A list of useful software tools by Google is listed here.

Internet
To have an adequate educational experience during online classes, a fast broadband Internet connection (with unlimited data, preferably) is needed. A lot of information is transmitted and received in video format, so slow or unreliable connections will increase dissatisfaction with the learning and communication experience, as well as conference call fatigue.
